Connecting Flights: Do I Need Pet Requirements For Layover Countries?

Sometimes layover countries have their own pet rules — here's how PadsPass surfaces them

Sometimes, yes. Some jurisdictions have transit (layover) rules that apply even if you are only connecting through an airport.

What PadsPass shows

When you plan a trip with connecting flights, PadsPass may show:

  • Origin requirements
  • Destination requirements
  • Transit (layover) country requirements (when they apply)

Example

If you fly from Mexico to Canada with a connection through the United States, you may see U.S. transit pet requirements in addition to Mexico and Canada requirements.

Important notes

  • Transit rules vary by country and can depend on your route, airline, whether you stay airside, and whether you need to clear immigration or re-check baggage.
  • Requirements can change, so always confirm current rules with your airline and the destination and transit authorities for your trip.

If you’re unsure

If you’re not sure whether your connection counts as “transit” for your situation, contact support and include:

  • Origin and destination
  • Layover airport(s) and country/countries
  • Travel dates
  • Pet type (dog, cat, service animal)
