What is A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI)?
What a CVI is, why it matters for pet travel, and how to upload one in PadsPass
A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) is an official travel document issued by a licensed veterinarian after an exam, typically used to document that an animal was examined and is cleared for movement under the applicable rules.
In many cases, people call this a veterinary health certificate (or simply a health certificate). In the U.S., “CVI” is one of the most common formal names you’ll see on the paperwork.
Important: Requirements vary by destination and carrier and can change. Always confirm the current requirements with your airline or carrier, destination authority, and licensed veterinarian before travel.
